The Times reports that two theatre executives spoke about Mackintosh's plans, although the news of a Broadway transfer has been buzzed about since the announcement of the London return. The official opening night in the West End is set for May 21. 

Performances began May 3 at the Prince Edward Theatre, where American actress Eva Noblezada stars as Kim. Seventeen-year-old Noblezada, a recent high school graduate who was discovered during the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards) in New York City last June, is making her professional stage debut in the role. 

Mackintosh, according to the Times, plans to open Saigon in Toronto, prior to a Broadway transfer — a similar path that the current Les Miz revival, playing the Imperial Theatre, took to Broadway.

The producer told the Times that a Broadway transfer of Saigon is "only speculative gossip," but said, "Of course I would like to bring the show to both cities if it proves to be the success it's shaping up to be – indeed the Princess of Wales in Toronto was built specially to house the original production of Saigon. However with our incredibly busy international openings of several different titles over the next two years, and the very limited number of theatres that could house a production as big as Saigon on Broadway, lining up a theatre and production slot is going to be very difficult particularly as many of Saigon's creative team are working on my other shows as well."

According to the Times, Broadway theatres with the wing space to accommodate the famed helicopter — as well as other scenic elements —  are currently full. The Broadway, Miss Saigon's original home, currently houses Cinderella; the Winter Garden is home to Rocky; and the On the Town revival will go into the newly renamed Lyric. Jon Jon Briones, who was in the ensemble of the original cast of Miss Saigon when it first opened at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane 25 years ago and has since played the Engineer in his native Philippines, London and on tour in the U.K., U.S. and Germany, reprises the role of the Engineer.

Alistair Brammer, who previously made his professional debut as Marius in Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre, plays Chris. He played Billy in War Horse at the New London Road, and has also appeared in Taboo at the Brixton Club House. He also played Jean Prouvaire in the film version of "Les Misérables."

Tamsin Carroll, who recently played Chairy Barnum in Barnum at Chichester Festival's Theatre in the Park and was last seen in the West End as Nancy in Oliver! at the Theatre Royal, Durry Lane, plays Ellen. Her other U.K. theatre credits include The Magistrate at the National Theatre, and Ragtime and A Midsummer Night's Dream (both at the Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park).

Hugh Maynard reprises the role of John that he previously played in the the first and second national U.K. tours of Miss Saigon. He was most recently seen in the tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar. His West End credits include Sister Act and the original cast of The Lion King.

Rachelle Ann Go, who plays Gigi, is a well-known TV star in the Philippines, having won their "Search for a Star" contest, and is a double-platinum recording artist.

The ensemble includes Julia Abueva, Natalie Chua, Jon-Scott Clark, Rob Compton, Callum Francis, Ashley Gilmour, Maria Graciano, Simon Hardwick, Jack Harrison-Cooper, Matthew Jeans, Kurt Kansley, Kittiphun Kittipakapom, David Lee, Mitch Leow, Ela Lisondra, Tanya Manalang, Christian Rey Marbella, Kanako Nakano, Thao Therese Nguyen, Saori Oda, Ariel Reonal, Jon Reynolds,  Romeo Salazar, Jordan Shaw, Marsha Songcome, Eloisa Amalia Tan, Christian Tanamal, Thao Vilayvong, Amadeus Williams and Gerald Zarcilla.

Miss Saigon has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and Alain Boublil, adapted from original French lyrics by Boublil. This new production is directed by Laurence Connor with musical staging by Bob Avian and additional choreography by Geoffrey Garratt, production design by Totie Driver and Matt Kinley from an original concept by Adrian Vaux, costume design by Andreane Neofitou, orchestrations by William David Brohn, lighting design by Bruno Poet and sound design by Mick Potter.
