STC co-artistic director Andrew Upton directs O'Neill's classic that first premiered in Australia June 29-Aug. 1. The Artists Rep production will officially open Aug. 14 and play an extended engagement through Sept. 5.

A cast of American and Australian actors has been assembled for O'Neill's autobiographical family drama that features Hurt as James Tyrone and Nevin as his wife Mary. The cast also includes Luke Mullins as Edmund Tyrone, Emily Russell as Cathleen and Todd Van Voris as Jamie Tyrone.

"The production of Long Day’s Journey Into Night is an exceptional, unusual opportunity for regional audiences to see a Broadway‐caliber theatrical masterpiece such as this," said Artsts Rep artistic director Allen Nause in a statement. "This is one of the most difficult and complex plays ever written and may well be the most challenging stage role of my friend William’s career."

Long Day's Journey has set design by Michael Scott-Mitchell, costume design by Tess Schofield, lighting design by Nick Schlieper and original music and sound design by Max Lyandvert.
