The famous American director Robert Wilson anticipates the celebration of the 100 birthday of Bertolt Brecht, with the production The Ocean Flight, which opened at the Berliner Ensemble, January 28.
The production is based on a didactic radio play written in 1928/29, in which Brecht celebrates the first flight over the Atlantic by the American pilot Charles Lindbergh as a triumph of technology over nature. Wilson has added two further texts: the apocalyptic scenario Landscape with Argonauts by Heiner Muller, and a collage of a story by Dostojevsky, in which a poor and lonely intellectual in a hole looses faith in historical progress. Wilson has once again created a highly imaginative visual theatre in which he reflects on the greatness and on the limits of mankind. Stage set and lighting are by Wilson, music was composed by Hans Peter Kuhn. The role of Lindbergh is played by the young actor Stefan Kurt.
