When Thomas Babe's Civil War drama Rebel Women -- which starts performances Jan. 22 and runs to Feb. 14 at the Ohio Theatre, 66 Wooster Street -- premiered in 1976 at the New York Shakespeare Festival, it featured an impressive cast of future stars, including Mandy Patinkin (Sunday in the Park with George ), John Glover (Love! Valour! Compassion! ), Eric Roberts ("Star 80" ), Peter Weller ("Robocop" ) and David Dukes (Broken Glass ).
Twenty-two years later, the Windsor Repertory Theatre Company is reviving the drama at the Ohio Theatre in Soho, NY. Again the cast is populated by unknowns -- including Margot Ebling, James Elmore, Nicole Haywood, Harriet Koppel, Sean McArthur, Karla Mason, James Schlag and Mark Shelton -- but, then again, you know what happened last time.
Rebel Women takes place in Georgia in December 1864, just before the arrival of Sherman's march. The story focuses on Sherman and his aides as they enter one Southern home. Alex Lippard directs.
