News Winter Weather Prompts Atlanta Theatres to Cancel Performances; Book of Mormon Tour Affected The icy winter storm that has shut down large portions of the Southeastern U.S. has prompted cancellations at Atlanta's Alliance and Horizon theatres.

The Alliance Theatre, which is currently presenting the world premiere of Janece Shaffer's historical play The Geller Girls, has canceled the Jan. 29 evening performance; the Horizon Theatre Company has also canceled its 8 PM performance of Karen Zacarías' The Book Club Play. Both organizations are hoping to resume operations as of Jan. 30.

Atlanta's Fox Theatre, which is currently host to the national tour of The Book of Mormon, canceled the Tony-winning hit's first scheduled Atlanta performance on Jan. 28 due to the State of Emergency declared by Governor Nathan Deal. The Jan. 29 evening performance has also been canceled due to "current severe weather conditions in the Atlanta area." A 7 PM performance on Feb. 3 has been added to accommodate theatregoers with tickets to the canceled performances. 

Many in the Southeast found themselves stranded on roads, in schools and various places of business Jan. 28, after the winter weather arrived early Tuesday afternoon.
