News Winther Explores Guettel, Sondheim and More at the Metropolitan Room Nov. 19 Former Mamma Mia! star Michael Winther, who is currently in rehearsals for the Baltimore Centerstage production of The Boys From Syracuse, heads to the Metropolitan Room in Manhattan Nov. 19.

Backed by Dan Tepfer on piano, Winther will perform at the new Manhattan cabaret Nov. 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 9:30 PM. His concerts will feature tunes by Stephen Sondheim, Adam Guettel, Fred Hersch, Harold Arlen, Arthur Schwartz, Burton Lane, Burt Bacharach and Joni Mitchell. The evenings, according to press notes, will explore "the intersection between jazz improvisation, music theatre and popular music." On Broadway, Michael Winther has appeared in Mamma Mia!, 1776, The Crucible, Artist Descending a Staircase and Damn Yankees, while his Off-Broadway credits include Songs from an Unmade Bed, Hapgood, Berlin to Broadway, Forever Plaid, Predator's Ball and the original cast of Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding. Winther has worked at regional theatres throughout the country, and his film and TV credits include "Independence Day," "Universal Soldier," "Law & Order," "Mary & Rhoda," "NY News," "Rocket Power" and "Wild Thornberrys."
