Michael Winther and his selections of new theatre music from Adam Guettel, Ricky Ian Gordon and others ends June 25 at the Triad Theatre after a two-performance extension. Winther's Looking Forward: An Evening of New Theatre Music was originally to run May 21 & 29 and June 5 & 12.
At the piano is Jenny Giering, one of the composers featured in the evening, whose The Mistress Cycle will be represented. Every performance, composer Debrah Barsha (the Keith Haring musical, Radiant Baby) accompanies Winther on her songs.
Guettel is the best known of the composers being sung, thanks to his Off Broadway productions, Floyd Collins and Saturn Returns and the upcoming A Light in the Piazza. Gordon also had an Off Broadway production, 1999's Dream True, directed by Tina Landau, and is known for his selections on Audra McDonald's first CD, "Way Back to Paradise." Also featured will be Stephen Hoffman (Off-Broadway's Splendora), Brendan Milburn (Groove Lily Band), Steve Marzullo and Alex Rybeck.
Winther last sang on Broadway in 1776. Other New York credits include Damn Yankees, Artist Descending a Staircase, Gordon's Dream True, Hapgood (Lincoln Center), the original company of Tony 'N' Tina's Wedding and Forever Plaid.
