News With a Cast of 26, 5th Avenue Theatre Stages Sweeney Todd in Seattle Oct. 25-Nov. 13 While New York digests a conceptual, 10-person take on Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd on Broadway this fall, Seattle audiences at The 5th Avenue Theatre will see a more traditional large-cast version of the classic about unbridled revenge.

5th Avenue producing artistic director David Armstrong directs Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, running Oct. 25-Nov. 13.

A full-scale professional production of Sweeney Todd has never been produced for Seattle audiences. Opening is Oct. 27. The cast is led by Allen Fitzpatrick (Broadway's Sweet Smell of Success, Les Miserables) as the vengeful Sweeney Todd and Carol Swarbrick (Broadway's 42nd Street, Whoopee! and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) as his addled accomplice Mrs. Lovett.

The 1979 musical has a book by Hugh Wheeler and won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. Stephen Sondheim wrote music and lyrics. In the work, a wrongly convicted Sweeney returns to London's Fleet Street to find the corrupt judge who led Sweeney's wife to a life of ruin.

The cast also includes Leslie Law (Beggar Woman), Ivan Hernandez (Anthony Hope), Sarah Anne Lewis (Johanna), Sal Mistretta (Pirelli), Julian Patrick (Judge Turpin), Roland Rusinek (Beadle) and Ben Schrader (Tobias Ragg). Ensemble members include Mo Brady, Evan Bryant, John Cooper, Jeannette d'Armand, Jadd Davis, Candice Donehoo, Mary Jo DuGaw, David Earl Hart, Eric Jensen, Bobbi Kotula, Cheryl Massey-Peters, Corinna Munter, Brandon O'Neill, Kat Ramsburg, Aaron Shanks, Karen Skrinde and Beth Zuman.

The conductor and musical director is Ian Eisendrath. Aaron Tuttle is the assistant director, Tom Sturge is the lighting designer, David Patridge is the sound designer, and Mary Pyanowski is the hair/make-up designer. Anne Kearson is the production stage manager. David Armstrong has directed acclaimed productions of Hair, A Little Night Music, The Secret Garden, The Rocky Horror Show, Yankee Doodle Dandy! and Anything Goes. He also directed the Off-Broadway musicals Tallulah and The Wonder Years, which he co-authored and had a long-running Los Angeles production that received seven Drama-Logue Awards including Best Musical and Best Director.
