Broadway costume designer Barbara Matera will be profiled on NY/NJ's WNET Channel 13 program, "City Arts," Thursday, Nov. 7 at 8 PM, with a repeat Saturday early morning, Nov. 9, at 12:30 AM.

According to WNET spokesman Natasha Caba, the 10-minute segment features interviews with Sunset Boulevard's Elaine Paige and dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, as well as a look at how Matera selects every bead and fabric, and how she goes about fitting Faye Dunaway and other celebrities.

English-born Matera and her husband, Arthur, formed Barbara Matera Ltd., which designed and executed costumes for such Broadway productions as Follies, La Cage Aux Folles, Nine, City Of Angels and Jelly's Last Jam.

Rather than draw sketches, Matera creates her gowns directly on the figure -- including such figures as Meryl Streep, Mickey Rooney, Rock Hudson, Jeremy Irons, Ann Miller, Mia Farrow and Mary Martin. She's also designed opera costumes for Joan Sutherland, Marilyn Horne and Leontyne Price.
