A concert version of the new musical The Women of Brewster Place will be presented Oct. 12 at Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD.

The 8 PM evening is presented in conjunction with Arena Stage, the Washington, DC, theatre that will present the new musical beginning Oct. 19. The musical, which is based on Gloria Naylor's best-selling novel, recently made its world premiere at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, GA.

The Women of Brewster Place, according to press notes, "chronicles the dreams and realities of ten diverse African American women who live in a decaying housing project on a dead-end street. Haunted by pasts full of mistakes and tragedies, and threatened by an environment full of poverty and prejudice, will the women overcome their differences and come together as a community before it's too late?"

Tim Acito penned the musical's book and score.
