News Women Playwrights Festival at ACT, May 16-21 SEATTLE-- Seattle's A Contemporary Theatre and Whidbey Island's Hedgebrook, a retreat for women writers, have joined forces to present the Women Playwrights Festival, opening at ACT Sat. May 16. The festival readings are in the Bullit Cabaret, and will run through May 21.

SEATTLE-- Seattle's A Contemporary Theatre and Whidbey Island's Hedgebrook, a retreat for women writers, have joined forces to present the Women Playwrights Festival, opening at ACT Sat. May 16. The festival readings are in the Bullit Cabaret, and will run through May 21.

Six nationally-known women playwrights, Darrah Cloud, Kia Corthron, Migdalia Cruz, Joann Farias, Naomi Iizuka and Lizzie Olesker were selected from a competitive pool of 55 applicants from across the country. Their works to be presented are as follows:

Sat. May 16 at 8 PM: American Siddhartha by Darah Cloud, directed by M. Burke Walker.

Sun. May 17 at 7 PM: Light Raise the Roof by Kia Corthron, directed by Valerie Curtis Newton. Mon. May 18 at 7:30 PM: The Outhouse Legacyby Joann Farias, directed by Nikki Appino.

Tues. May 19 at 7:30 PM: Aloha, Say The Pretty Girl by Naomi Iizuka, directed by Richard E.B. White Wed. May 20, 7:30 PM: Razing Housesby Lizzie Olesker, directed by Robin Lynn Smith.

Thurs. May 21 at 7:30 PM: TBA by Migdalia Cruz, directed by Ellen Graham
