The show will officially open on Dec. 5.

Iguana is produced by Bill Kenwright and directed by Anthony Page (who also recently directed another Williams play for Kenwright, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Ned Beatty, in London and New York).

Harrelson was a West Ender in 2002, when he joined Kyle MacLachlan in On an Average Day. Before “Cheers,” and his subsequent movie career, he started his career as an understudy in the New York theatre production of Neil Simon’s Biloxi Blues.

The play is seldom performed, though there was a 1964 movie version with Richard Burton, Ava Gardner and Deborah Kerr (and the Internet Movie Database lists another to be filmed in 2005 starring Jeremy Irons). It depicts a disgraced priest (Harrelson), whose sexual turbulence is further stirred by a widow (to be played by Clare Higgins) and a disturbed spinster (Jenny Seagrove).

Seagrove is a veteran of many films and is a regular collaborator with Kenwright. Higgins won an Olivier Award for Sweet Bird of Youth and another for Vincent in Brixton, both for the National Theatre. Page’s most recent work in Theatreland was Albee’s The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia?, while his production of A Doll’s House (London and New York) won him a Tony.
