The festival, in its 16th year, will screen 314 films, including 58 world premieres, 55 North American premieres and 24 United States premieres, according to the Festival's website. The screenings are scheduled to take place June 22-28 at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs, CA.

Close (Sunset Boulevard, The Real Thing, Death and the Maiden, "The Shield") narrates the world-premiere documentary "Pax," which she co-directed with Sarah Harvey. The film tells the story of a disabled Iraq war veteran and the dog sent to help him. Shannon (Our Town, Bug, "Revolutionary Road") stars as "Herbert White," a family man with a secret, in one of three shorts in the film directed by James Franco ("Milk," the upcoming "Howl").

Mahoney (House of Blue Leaves, Prelude to a Kiss, "Frasier") and Taylor (Aunt Dan and Lemon, the recently cancelled Lips Together, Teeth Apart) play a father and daughter in "Tired of Being Funny."

Brian Geraghty (Mark Taper Forum's The Subject Was Roses, "The Hurt Locker") stars with Juno Temple, Lukas Haas ("Witness") and Joel David Moore in "Bastard," a film described as "a legendary story [that] is re-imagined in a contemporary setting, as a young couple make their way through the desert to a rendezvous with fate"; Kirsten Dunst ("Spider Man," "Bring It On") directs.

Animated shorts in the festival will include "Higgledy Piggledy Pop! Or There Must be More to Life," a Maurice Sendak-inspired tale of a terrier who leaves home for further adventure, which features the voices of Streep (Mother Courage, 27 Wagons Full of Cotton, "Sophie's Choice"), Oscar winner Forest Whitaker ("The Last King of Scotland"), and director Spike Jonze ("Where the Wild Things Are"). McKellen King Lear, (Amadeus, "Lord of the Rings") and Joseph Fiennes ("Shakespeare in Love") lend their voices to "A Lost and Found Box of Human Sensation," an entry from Germany about a newly fatherless boy's "powerful emotional journey through time and space, seeking to cope with his grief."

The British animated short "The Gruffalo," about a mouse who barely avoids becoming soup, features the voice talents of Helena Bonham-Carter ("Sweeney Todd," "Alice in Wonderland"), Robbie Coltrane (the "Harry Potter" series), John Hurt ("The Elephant Man," "Midnight Express") and Tom Wilkinson ("John Adams," "Michael Clayton").
