An unknown play by Tennessee Williams — Stairs to the Roof — is just one of the eighty works that will be offered during Octoberfest 2003.

Presented by the Ensemble Studio Theatre, the 23rd annual festival offers new works — comedy, drama, poetry, story-telling — by the theatre's members. From Oct. 1 to Nov. 2, theatregoers will be able to sample works by both emerging artists and better-known E.S.T. members, among them Graeme Gillis, Eileen Myers, Robert Simonson, Amy Staats, Shirley Lauro, Jeffrey Sweet, Peter Maloney, Keith Reddin and Mary Louise Wilson. Plays will be presented on both stages of E.S.T., which is located in Manhattan at 549 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues. Tickets to the productions are free and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For reservations or more information, call (212) 868 4444 or visit www.smarttix.com.

Founded in 1972 by Artistic Director Curt Dempster, Ensemble Studio Theatre has two primary goals: to nurture theatre artists and develop new American plays. With a community of over 500 theatre artists, E.S.T. produces over 300 projects each year.
