The culmination of a four-year collaboration with Human Race, Play It By Heart has music by David Spangler and Jerry Taylor, lyrics by Spangler, Taylor and R.T. Robinson, and book by Pulitzer and Tony Award winner Yorkey. The musical is directed by Kevin Moore and closes the company's 27th season June 12-July 6.

The cast includes Broadway's Trisha Rapier (Sister Act) as Jeannine and George Psomas (South Pacific) as well as Kathryn Boswell (Jamie Lynn), Sharva Maynard (Naomi), Paul Blankenship (Billy), Scott Stoney (Buck), Tim Lile (Lyle), Christine Brunner (Debbie Dean), Cooper Taggard (Davey) and J.J. Tiemeyer (Robbie).

Human Race Theatre Company writes of the new musical, "It’s the passing of the torch in a country music dynasty as superstar Jeannine Jasper’s long career draws to a close. The changing world of the music industry is about to thrust her little sister, Jamie Lynn, into the spotlight. When an old flame comes calling, Jeannine envisions a quiet life offstage, but Jamie Lynn’s wild ways may cut short her time on top. Stage mother Naomi tries to keep control of her daughters until a scandalous secret comes to light and threatens to tear them apart. A musical about heartbreak and healing, this regional premiere comes alive with an exciting original score filled with new songs from the Nashville sound to new country."

The creative team includes Megan Wean (choreographer), Nils-Petter Ankarblom (music director), Adam Koch (set design), Christine Peitzmeier (costumes), John Rensel (lighting) and Brian Retterer (sound).

All performances are at the Metropolitan Art Center’s Loft Theatre (126 North Main Street in Dayton, OH). For more information and to purchase tickets, visit humanracetheatre.org.
