The co-production with the Galway Arts Festival — where performances will commence in July — began performances March 7. It had originally been scheduled to continue through April 13.

Developed through Northlight's Interplay program, Chapatti is directed by artistic director BJ Jones and features Tony Award winner John Mahoney (The House of Blue Leaves, Prelude to a Kiss) and Penny Slusher (Picnic, "Grace Is Gone").

"In Chapatti, romance is a distant memory for two lonely animal-lovers living in Dublin," press notes state. "When forlorn Dan and his dog Chapatti cross paths with amiable Betty and her nineteen cats, an unexpected spark begins a warm and gentle story about two people re-discovering the importance of human companionship."

"This co-production between Northlight Theatre and Galway Arts Festival is the result of three successful Northlight transfer productions in the past five years to Ireland's most prestigious festival," Northlight's executive director Tim Evans said in a previous statement. "Created by Irish and American artists, Chapatti initiates a new producing partnership allowing us both to present this unique play and potentially others in Chicago, Galway and beyond."

"Galway Arts Festival and Northlight Theatre have enjoyed a highly successful partnership since the Festival presented Larry Gelbart and Craig Wright's Better Late and Bruce Graham's The Outgoing Tide, both starring John Mahoney, and Graham's most recent play Stella & Lou in July 2013 starring Penny Slusher," Galway Arts Festival artistic director Paul Fahy added. "Our audiences have enthusiastically embraced American playwrights and productions over the years and this forthcoming co-production of Christian O'Reilly's Chapatti is a very natural progression following many years of creative collaboration and exchange between Galway and Chicago artists." The creative team includes Jack Magaw (set design), Rachel Laritz (costume design), JR Lederle (lighting design), Denis Clohessy (composer/sound design), Sarah Burnham (props), Amanda Hermann (assistant props) and Brigid Duffy (dialect coach). The stage manager is Laura D. Glenn.
