The world premiere of David Mamet’s The Penitent officially opens February 27 at the Atlantic Theater Company Off-Broadway. The new play by the Pulitzer Prize winner began performances February 8 with direction by artistic director Neil Pepe.

The cast of The Penitent is made up of Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (The Walking Dead, The Machinist, The Wire), Chris Bauer (True Blood, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Wire), Jordan Lage (Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed-the-Plow, Race), and Rebecca Pidgeon (The Spanish Prisoner, The Old Neighborhood).

In Mamet’s newest work, a renowned psychiatrist, played by Bauer, is asked to testify on behalf of a young patient. When he refuses, his career, ethics, and faith are thrown into question. The production is scheduled to play a limited engagement through March 19 at the Linda Gross Theater.

The Penitent features scenic design by Tim Mackabee, costume design by Laura Bauer, lighting design by Don Holder, and casting by Telsey + Company.
