The season will kick off with the regional premiere of Baby Case, a new musical about the media circus that surrounded the Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping. Featuring a book, lyrics and music by Michael Ogborn, the musical — seen last year at the New York Musical Theatre Festival — will be directed by Ron Peluso with music direction by Jake Endres. Performances will run Oct. 5–Nov. 3.
The world premiere of a new play by Simonson (Magic/Bird, Lombardi), The Incredible Season of Ronnie Rabinovitz, which tells the true story of the Rabinovitz family and Ronnie's unique friendships with two of his heroes in 1960, Jackie Robinson and John F. Kennedy, will run Feb. 1-23, 2014. Peluso will direct.
The world premiere of Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried, a view of the Vietnam War through the eyes of one soldier, adapted for the stage by Jim Stowell and based on the book by O'Brien, will run March 15-April 6, 2014. Leah Cooper will direct the one-man show, which will star Steven D'Ambrose.
Working Boys Band, a world-premiere piece featuring a book and lyrics by Dominic Orlando with music by Hiram Titus, will run May 3-June 1, 2014. Directed by Peluso, here's how it's billed: "In a world before child labor laws, many young people got factory jobs to help their families get by. One visionary educator saw music as a way to bring structure and meaning into the lives those children and so in 1918 Professor C. C. Heintzman formed the Working Boys Band. Through music, discipline, and compassion, the Professor shaped a rough-and-tumble group of young men into a Twin Cities institution. This world premiere musical celebrates the place of music in the lives of young people with a flourish of romance, a crescendo of patriotism, and the growing drumbeat of the approaching Great War."
