10 out of 12 takes place during the chaos of a stage show's technical rehearsal, offering the audience a unique glimpse into theatre-making.

The production, a Soho Rep commission, reunites the playwright with award-winning director and artistic director at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Les Waters. Performances are now set to continue through July 11.

Based on notes Washburn took during her own past technical rehearsals, the play re-creates the experience of designers programming cues, backstage gossip and actors patiently passing the time  — all the while, a director faces the challenge of managing the unmanageable. "As these activities unfold simultaneously, the audience is given an intimate glimpse into the flurry of life that surrounds the act of theater making," state press notes.

The title is a union term, limiting how many hours in a day an actor may work during the final period of rehearsals.

The ensemble includes Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Jeff Biehl, Gibson Frazier, Rebecca Hart, Nina Hellman, Sue Jean Kim, Bruce McKenzie, Garrett Neergaard, Bray Poor, David Ross, Thomas Jay Ryan, Conrad Schott, Wendy Rich Stetson and Leigh Wade. The creative team includes David Zinn (sets), Justin Townsend (lights), Bray Poor (sound), Ásta Bennie Hostetter (costumes), George Hoffmann & Greg Kozatek (props) and Amanda Spooner (production stage manager).

Alongside performances of 10 out of 12, Soho Rep also presents FEED Humanities Events, a series of free workshops and talks surrounding the production. Topics include "A Life as a Stage Manager," "A Life as a Lighting Designer," "Bray Poor's Sound Design Masterclass" and "Unsung Heroes of the Theatre!"
