The Moonlight Group presents the world premiere of Moonlight artistic director Israela Margalit's Night Blooming Jasmine at the Tribeca Playhouse Feb. 10. Jeremy Dobrish directs the story of two star-crossed lovers in war ravaged Israel -- he is an Israeli Jew, she an Israeli Arab.
Featured in the cast are Emmy Award-winner Thom Christopher, Pierre Epstein, David Josefsberg, Frances Anderson, Joshua Annex, Melissa Gabriel, Ian Kahn, Tricia Paoluccio and Dean Strober.
In a statement, director Dobrish said he was attracted to the play as a Jew who had fallen away from his roots. "This seemed like a perfect opportunity to explore that side of myself through my work," Dobrish said. "The deeper I got into the play, however, the more I realized just how universal these themes are. Prejudice, intolerance, and hypocrisy affect us all in a myriad of ways."
Previews for Night Blooming Jasmine begin Feb. 10. The show opens Feb. 16 and runs through March 4. Tickets are $15 and are available through SmartTix at (212) 532-8887 or by visiting smarttix.com.
