Aucoin, who composed his first work at four years old, has been compared to Mozart and Leonard Bernstein. His opera Second Nature is geared toward younger audiences and fashioned for the setting in which it is performed.
Second Nature tells the story of a future in which a deteriorating environment has caused humans to retreat from nature, and the two young people who work together to heal the planet.
The opera is Aucoin's second world premiere in the last three months. In May Crossing, a more adult-themed work about Walt Whitman's work with wounded Civil War soldiers, was presented at American Repertory Theater in Boston.
