News Would-Be Producers Sought for 22nd Annual "Producing for the Commercial Theater" Workshop The Commercial Theater Institute will once again offer its annual three-day intensive training program, "Producing for the Commercial Theater," which is designed to help foster a new generation of theatre producers.

A co-project between The League of American Theatres and Producers and Theatre Development Fund, the three-day program April 23-25 will feature top members of the theatrical industry, including producers, general managers, legal experts as well as theatre marketers.

Graduates of the program include producers of such theatrical productions as De La Guarda, Flower Drum Song, Hairspray, La Boheme, Man of La Mancha, Paper Doll, Rent, The Exonerated, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Man of La Mancha. More than 400 registrants from five different countries participated in last year's workshop.

Workshops for the upcoming weekend include the following:

Legal Aspects for Producing in Commercial Theater, led by Patricia Crown, Esq.

Budget Analysis of a Production/The Role of the General Manager, led by Peter Bogyo (Sly Fox) and Nina Lannan (Never Gonna Dance). Developing a Major Musical, led Amy Danis (Little Shop of Horrors); Jay Harris (Never Gonna Dance); Jeffrey Seller (Avenue Q); David Stone (Wicked); and Elizabeth Williams (Bombay Dreams).

Developing and Producing a Play Off and On Broadway, led by Jane Bergere (The Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All); Susan Gallin (The Retreat From Moscow); Michael Rego (Debbie Does Dallas); Jeffrey Richards (Enchanted April); and Julian Schlossberg (Sly Fox).

Marketing for Broadway/Off Broadway in the 21st Century: led by Jed Bernstein, president of The League of American Theaters and Producers.

Advertising Agency/Press Agents/Marketing Consultants, led by Adrian Bryan-Brown, Boneau/Bryan-Brown; Jim Edwards, SpotCo Advertising; and Nancy Richards, Nancy Richards Group.

Producing for the Road, led by Kevin McCollum, The Producing Office.
