The two-hour broadcast is part of the Emmy-winning P.O.V. series, public television's showcase for point-of-view, nonfiction films. The telecast will conclude P.O.V.'s 20th season. Oscar-Winning director Freida Lee Mock profiled the Tony-winning director for "Wrestling with Angels," which is divided into three-acts: "As a Citizen of the World," "Mama, I'm a Homosexual, Mama" and "Collective Action to Overcome Injustice." The film — which delves into Kushner's political views, his personal life and professional work — spans the course of 2001-2004, covering Kushner's work on Homebody/Kabul, the John Kerry presidential campaign, his marriage, Brundibar and the Broadway opening of Caroline, or Change. Among the artists and friends who appear in the film are Oskar Eustis, Maurice Sendak, Meryl Streep, Marcia Gay Harden, Linda Emond, George C. Wolfe, Larry Kramer, Tonya Pinkins, Anika Noni Rose, Eli Weisberger, Jeanine Tesori, Rita Wolf, Eric Kushner, William Kushner, Mark Harris and Harrison Chad.

Filmmaker Mock said in a statement, "The time frame of 'Wrestling With Angels,' during which I essentially stalked him all over the country, were immensely active for Kushner with the production of new plays, books, master classes and community work. These activities are the building-blocks through which the audience will come, I hope, to understand not only Kushner's artistry, but the creative process in general, and the difference one artist can make in inspiring us to engage the moral and political issues of our times."
