News York to Present Benefit Concerts of The Gig and People Like Us; Jay to Record One-night-only concerts of The Gig and People Like Us will be presented to benefit the York Theatre Company on, respectively, May 2 and 8. Jay Records will record the musicals the day following each performance.

The Gig, which is based on the film by Frank D. Gilroy, features book, music and lyrics by Douglas J. Cohen. Victoria Bussert will direct the May 2 concert with musical direction by David Evans. Show time is 8 PM. "A used car salesman, a dentist, a real estate agent, a financial advisor, a deli owner and a music teacher," read production notes, "put their careers and families on hold to pursue their passion — music — with their first professional 'gig' in the Catskills." People Like Us features music by Todd Almond and book and lyrics by Almond and Gus Kaikkonen. Kaikkonen will direct the May 7 performance with musical direction by Almond. Show time is 8 PM. Set on New Year's Eve, People Like Us concerns "Pamela and Matt, single and thirty, [who] escape from two very bad dates and run into each other in Washington Square. They haven't seen each other since breaking up in high school. Pamela is now a professor at NYU; Matt's a rising television star in LA. The old fire between them is quickly rekindled."

Matt Bogart and Pamela Bob will star in People Like Us. Casting for The Gig will be announced shortly.
