Angel on My Shoulder, billed as "a new a cappella musical," kicks off the free series Sunday, July 18 at 7:30 PM. With music by Warren Hill, lyrics by O'Mara Leary and J. W. Beaumont and a book by James Beaumont, the musical is described as a jazzy, contemporary update of the film of the same name. Angel on My Shoulder concerns a dead gangster who is brought back to life by the devil.
What We Learn From Our Mothers follows on July 25 at 7:30 PM. A song cycle for five women, the musical is based on the poetry of Barbara DeCesare and features music by David Wolfson and words by DeCesare. Wolfson and Ari Laura Keith conceived the idea for the production.
On Aug. 8 interested theatregoers can see The Music in Me at 7:30 PM. The musical — score by Mario Giacalone and book by Dawn Eaton — follows the band Chris D and the Destinations as they begin a 1988 reunion tour.
The series will conclude with a musical based on the legendary tale of Camille. With music by Ron Abel, lyrics by Chuck Steffan and a book by Daniel O'Connor, Camille will be presented Aug. 22 at 7:30 PM and Aug. 23 at 2 PM.
