SCENERY launches its new collection, featuring clutches and accessories made from upcycled materials from Broadway’s Kinky Boots set, July 10.

The “Say Yeah” handbag marks the first item in the collection, made from the red “Milan” curtain in the musical’s finale. This is the same curtain that provided the material for Billy Porter’s Tony Awards look in June, two months after the musical ended its Broadway run.

Founded by former stage manager Jennifer Kahn, SCENERY recycles materials donated from the sets of Broadway, national tour, and regional productions to create one-of-a-kind handbags and accessories. A portion of the proceeds of all sales go to TDF to support theatre education.

Since launching 2017, SCENERY has collected 15,544 pounds of theatrical waste, sponsored over 500 students to watch Broadway shows, and helped 26 shows find new life.

In addition to Kinky Boots, SCENERY sells bags made from scenic drops from Broadway’s Mamma Mia!, Rocky, Prince of Broadway, and Lobby Hero, as well as national touring productions of The Lion King, and Off-Broadway and regional productions of The Last Match, Benny & Joon, and more. They are currently working on an Ain’t Too Proud collection, taken from the scraps that resulted from re-sizing the scenery for Broadway.
