Women’s Project Theater has announced complete casting for the world premiere of Stuffed, written by and starring two-time Grammy-nominated comic Lisa Lampanelli. Joining the previously announced Lampanelli and Avenue Q star Ann Harada will be Outer Critics Circle nominee for Eclipsed Zainab Jah and Jessica Luck.
Stuffed, beginning previews September 23, explores the complexity of women’s relationships to food and body image. The play’s central characters are a bulimic, a compulsive eater, a confident overweight woman and a chronically thin one. The new work features additional material by Ashley Austin Morris and direction by Jackson Gay (These Paper Bullets).
The world premiere will officially open October 7 at Off-Broadway's McGinn/Cazale Theater and is scheduled to play through November 6.
“As a first-time playwright, I can say that I am completely blown away by this cast,” commented Lampanelli in a press statement. “To attract such accomplished, passionate actresses to this piece is enormously humbling, and I'm literally pinching myself that I get to work with Ann, Zainab, and Jessica. Just looking at their Broadway, off-Broadway, and TV credits leaves me speechless, but I'll try to find my voice by opening night.”
“When it comes to blue jeans, should one opt for a camel toe or a muffin top?” ask production notes for Stuffed. “And the ultimate question: can food and body-image issues ever truly be conquered or are we all just destined to be Stuffed?”
