Jan Buttram's Zona, The Ghost of Greenbrier will close April 16 at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Manhattan. Performances began March 10 with an opening March 19. James F. Wolk directs.
In 1896, Zona Heaster Shue, a young, newly-married woman, is found dead under mysterious circumstances. While her husband publicly grieves his wife, Zona's mother claims her daughter has returned -- to point out her murderer.
Buttram based her play on an actual American court case in which a supposed ghost helped convict a murderer. Other Buttram plays include Private Battle, Glory Girls and the 1995 Roger L. Stevens Award winner, Backwoods.
Zona stars Elizabeth Dean as the title character with David Van Pelt as Trout, her husband. Also in the cast are Kate Bushmann, Gina Daniels, Michael Deep, Carole Monferdini, Matt Shea, Ed Steel and Christopher Wolk.
Designing the drama are Elizabeth Chaney (sets), Pamela Scofield (costumes) and David Castaneda (lighting). Tickets are $30-$15. The Hudson Guild Theatre is located at 441 West 26th Street. For reservations, call (212) 532-8887.
