PLAYBILL.COM'S CUE & A: Heidi Blickenstaff

By Ernio Hernandez
16 Jan 2008

Heidi Blickenstaff

Heidi Blickenstaff — who is part of the cast of the new musical The Little Mermaid — fills out Playbill.com's questionnaire with random facts, backstage trivia and pop culture tidbits.

Full given name: Heidi Diane Blickenstaff
Hometown: Fresno, CA
Zodiac sign: Capricorn
Audition song: I need to work on this... I've been using the same sorry-ass song for way too long... A bluesy version of "Delta Dawn." Great now everyone's gonna use it.
Special skills: Well, now I'm awesome at heelying. Forwards and backwards!
First Broadway show ever saw: 42nd Street Last row balcony. I got the hiccups and loved every second of it. The show, not the hiccups.
If you could go back in time and catch any Broadway show, what would it be? Andrea McArdle in Annie. Duh.
Current show you have been recommending to friends: I still can't get over Spring Awakening.
Favorite show tune: Back on my Piazza kick. I can't get enough of Adam Guettel singing "Love to Me." It's a special version, people. Find it.
MAC or PC? MAC
Most played song on your iPod: Right now, "Chasing Cars." Over and over and over and over. I know the kids have moved on, but I'm still on Snow Patrol.
Last book you read: Like every woman, "Eat. Pray. Love."
Must-see TV show: Like every gay man, "Project Runway"
Last good movie you saw: Like every woman and gay man, "Atonement"
Favorite board/card game: The [title of show] gang and I like to play this stupid-awesome game called "Smarty-Party." Totes fun and totes easy. NO fighting. I don't like games that make the people around you change... Jeff Bowen!
Performer you would drop everything to go see: Olivia Newton-John and Judy Kuhn. And this year I almost peed my pants when I got to be on a bill with Olivia singing at the Ford's Theatre for the President of the United States. Fancy. And I almost peed my pants again when the [title of show] kids and I got to be on a bill with Judy Kuhn at the Rainbow Room for the Vineyard Theatre's 25th Anniversary Gala. Fancy.
Pop culture guilty pleasure: "A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila."
Favorite post-show meal: Usually cereal: Peanut Butter Bumpers or Peanut Butter Panda Poofs.
How you got your Equity card: The national tour of Dreamgirls. I played the white girl.
Worst onstage mishap: I was in a new musical up at Goodspeed called The Girl In The Frame. A pivotal prop (of a girl in a frame...) didn't make it on stage to start telling the whole story of... the girl in the frame. Jim Poulos and I tried for a full 3 minutes to make it work somehow, but eventually, we both realized that without... the girl in the frame, the play was going nowhere. So we broke character, explained it to the audience and started the whole damn thing over.
Worst costume ever: Um... not worst, but most unexpected - I never thought I'd be in a turquoise unitard and heelys with a huge fish on my head...
Cats or dogs? Dog. Olive.
Who would play you in the movie? Susan Blackwell.
Worst job you ever had: I was a toy demonstrator at FAO Schwartz. And I demonstrated Heelys. I swear to God.
Other than "The Little Mermaid," what is your favorite Disney movie? I love "Sleeping Beauty." It looks so different than all the others...
