PLAYBILL.COM'S CUE & A: Lily Rabe

By Ernio Hernandez
13 Feb 2008

Lily Rabe

Lily Rabe — who stars in the Off-Broadway production of Crimes of the Heart — fills out Playbill.com's questionnaire with random facts, backstage trivia and pop culture tidbits.

Full given name: Lily Rabe (no middle name)
Hometown: Lakeville, CT
Audition monologue: For awhile in college, I did a monologue from The Dreamer Examines His Pillow by John Patrick Shanley.
Special skills: I can't really cook but I'm great with a blender.
First Broadway show ever saw: Besides seeing Cats annually from about age two, the first Broadway play I saw was Grapes of Wrath - I lost my first tooth in the middle of it.
If you could go back in time and catch any Broadway show, what would it be? The Real Thing
Current show you have been recommending to friends: The Seafarer
MAC or PC? MAC!!!!!
Most played song on your iPod: It's probably a song by my older brother's band THE VLA. They're awesome.
One CD you couldn't live without: "Trouble" by Ray Lamontagne
Last book you read: I'm currently reading "Anagrams" by Lorrie Moore. She's incredible.
Must-see TV show: I started watching "24" on DVD and I actually had to take a break from it because I would stay up all night, every night, watching "just one more." I don't know how anyone can wait a whole week for the next episode.
Last good movie you saw: "Lars and the Real Girl"
Favorite board game: Taboo
Pop culture guilty pleasure: "Project Runway"
First stage kiss: I think it was in this Steve Martin play called Picasso at the Lapin Agile.
Favorite pre-/post-show meal: Pre is a peanut butter protein bar/post is a burger, medium rare.
How you got your Equity card: Summer after my sophomore year of college - doing two one-act plays (by Frank Pugliese and Israel Horovitz) at the Gloucester Stage Company
Worst onstage mishap: Well, last night something happened with the sound and during the first act, Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson" came on followed by Kathleen's recorded "Turn your cell phones off" announcement. That was a good one.
Who have you played on "Law & Order"? Which edition? SVU — a badly beaten up rape victim/SVU - the sister of a suspect who is covering for him.
Cats or dogs? DOGS - my boyfriend and I just got a puppy!
Favorite cereal: Shredded wheat with honey and whole milk
Worst costume ever: In high school I played Ariel in The Little Mermaid segment of something called "Broadway Night" ... ummmm, it involved seashells and a tail that was so big I had to kind of pick it up and carry it when I walked.
