HARVEY FIERSTEIN won his fourth Tony Award creating the role in which he appears tonight. Since leaving the original company of Hairspray, Harvey starred on Broadway as Tevye in the record-breaking revival of Fiddler on the Roof, then flew off to open Hairspray in Las Vegas. Last season he starred in his new musical, A Catered Affair, which garnered 12 Drama Desk Award nominations and won the Drama League Award and the San Diego Critics Circle Award for Best New Musical of 2008. Other Broadway appearances include his Tony Award-winning performance in Torch Song Trilogy and Safe Sex. Named to the Theatre Hall of Fame last season, Mr Fierstein’s other honors include Drama League Performer of the Year, three Drama Desk Awards, the Theatre World Award along with nominations for Emmy and Olivier Awards.
