JONATHAN PRYCE

JONATHAN PRYCE (Lawrence Jameson) made his Broadway debut in 1976 in the drama Comedians, for which he received the Tony Award and Theatre World Award. He also starred in Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of an Anarchist (Drama Desk Award nomination) and received Tony and Drama Desk Awards for his performance as The Engineer in Miss Saigon, a role he created in London (Best Actor Laurence Olivier Award). He was again nominated for the Olivier Award for his star turn as Henry Higgins in the recent National Theatre revival of My Fair Lady, and for his performance as Fagin in the West End revival of Oliver! As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, he played Macbeth and Octavius Caesar, and received an Olivier Best Actor Award nomination for his performance in The Taming of the Shrew. He won the Olivier Award for his performance as Hamlet at the Royal Court Theatre. Most recently, he starred with Kate Fahy in Albee’s The Goat…, receiving an Olivier Award nomination. In film, Mr. Pryce won the 1995 Cannes Film Festival’s Best Actor Award for his role in Christopher Hampton’s Carrington. His many screen performances include Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, Glengarry Glen Ross, Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence, Evita, “Barbarians at the Gate” (Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations), The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Tomorrow Never Dies, Regeneration, Ronin, Man on Fire, Stigmata, The Affair of the Necklace, The Brothers Grimm and Pirates of the Caribbean 1, 2 and 3. He dedicates his performance to all classically trained actors who wind up performing in dirty rotten musicals.
