CAROLE SHORENSTEIN HAYS Sole original producer of Fences on Broadway. Fences pre-Broadway: Curran Theatre. Fences opened on Broadway March 26, 1987, at the 46th Street Theatre and went on to win the 1987 Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Additional Broadway credits: A Behanding in Spokane; Proof; Doubt; Topdog/Underdog; Take Me Out; The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?; Caroline, or Change; and Julius Caesar with Denzel Washington. Partnered with Robert Nederlander, their organization SHN owns and programs the Curran, Golden Gate and Orpheum Theatres in San Francisco. She is married to Dr. Jeffrey Hays and has two children, Wally and Gracie.
