Synopsis:
Sondheim's 1973 musical is based on the Ingmar Bergman film Smiles of a Summer Night, about an aging actress, Desiree Armfeldt. She finds herself renewing a romance with a married lawyer when she grows tired of her blustering soldier lover, and the lawyer grows impatient with his resistently virginal child-bride. Romantic subplots collide during one eventful weekend in the country. The score includes "Send in the Clowns," "Liaisons," "The Miller's Son," "Every Day a Little Death" and "A Weekend in the Country.
