Synopsis:
In 1863 Italy, homely shut-in Fosca conceives a monumental passion for a dashing soldier, Giorgio. Giorgio, who is carrying on an affair with a beautiful married woman, at first disdains Fosca, but soon finds himself increasingly fascinated with "a love as pure as breath, as permanent as death, implacable as stone."
