Shear Madness opened in January 1980, and holds the Guinness Book of World Record's title for the longest-running play in the history of the American theatre. On Wednesday, December 17, 2003 audience members at the Charles Playhouse decided for the 10,000th time who killed the concert pianist living above the Shear Madness Salon. To put the popular play’s milestone in perspective, consider that Cats ran for only 7,485 performances and Les Miserables closed after a mere 6,680 shows.
