Daniel Goldstein, who had been scheduled to direct the earlier staging, will helm the upcoming production, which will feature choreography by Christopher Gattelli; the latter was nominated for a Tony for Best Choreography for the recent revival of South Pacific.
Casting has yet to be announced. "American Idol" finalist Diana DeGarmo and Tony nominee Gavin Creel had been scheduled to star in the 2008 mounting.
Ken Davenport will produce the revival, which had been aiming for a spring/summer 2011 arrival. The change is due to a lack of available theatres, the Times reports.
Godspell features a score by Schwartz and a book by Tebelak. Based on "The Gospel According to St. Matthew," the musical, press notes state, uses "improvisation and contemporary themes to illustrate the parables, [bringing] these lessons to life through the grand tradition of musical theatre." Song titles include "Day By Day," "Save The People," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side."
Goldstein had directed a critically acclaimed production of Godspell at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2006.
