One day after the announcement of this year's Tony Award nominations, Avenue Q wasted no time beginning its "grassroots" campaign for the Best Musical prize. Holding a private "fund-raising" gala at John's Pizzeria, complete with red, white, and blue ballons with matching promotional buttons ("Don't Suck, Vote Q"), the popular musical adorned the marquee and facade of the Golden Theatre in its new style, adding one more thing to the growing list of items that the musical makes a parody of on a daily basis. In total, Avenue Q garnered 6 nominations.
