Playbill Poll: What is Your Favorite Song by Jason Robert Brown? Readers Respond
By Playbill Staff
Last week, Playbill.com asked Betsy Wolfe and Adam Kantor, who co-starred in the revival of Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years and recently revisited that musical's score at 54 Below, to pick their favorite Brown songs. We wondered: What are our readers' favorite songs by the Tony Award-winning songwriter?
Brown, whose musical The Bridges of Madison County will open on Broadway in 2014, recently opened Honeymoon in Vegas at the Paper Mill Playhouse, which received strong reviews and is aiming for a Broadway transfer. Read more here.
Here are some reader responses and video.
JohnMichael Schott: "I Can Do Better Than That" always makes an appearance on my road trips. It's a fun one to sing in the car.
Matt Welch: "This Is Not Over Yet" from Parade was my first exposure to JRB (from the Tony Awards that year). Its power has stuck with me ever since.
Brandon Bowman: "Stars and the Moon"...without question...
Peter Camp: "Nobody Needs to Know" from The Last Five Years. The music and lyrics are heartbreaking on their own, but JRB's gut-wrenching orchestrations are what really pound it home for me.
Juliana Catherine: "I'm Not Afraid of Anything" and "I'd Give it All for You" and "Stars and the Moon" from Songs For A New World.
Robert Deckman: "All the Wasted Time" from Parade is amazing.
Sarah Sharpe: "I Could Be In Love With Someone Like You"! I honestly believe that I listen to that song the most out of any other track on "The Radio In My Head"!
@Angelacdumlao: Too many to name...but I'd have to say "Someone to Fall Back On" from @MrJasonRBrown's solo album. Tears. Feelings. Perfection.
Laura Beth Dailey: "If That's What It Is" from 13. Even though the musical focuses on the struggles of being 13, I find this song transcends the challenges you face at 13, as do many other songs in the show.
Gina Chapman: "See I'm Smiling"! Cathy's emotional arc in this one song tells so much about her character as an individual and girlfriend to Jamie.
