THE SCREENING ROOM: Jesus Christ Superstar Through the Years (Video)
12 Oct 2012
The original Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar premiered on Broadway Oct. 12, 1971, at the Mark Hellinger Theatre. The biblical musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice would go on to enjoy a 711-performance run and nab a Tony for its original Judas, Ben Vereen.
Playbill.com has put together some of our favorite performances from Superstar, including rarities by Constantine Maroulis, Sinead O'Connor, Adam Lambert, Colm Wilkinson and even a look at the original production.
"I Don't Know How To Love Him" from the 1973 film.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
