THE SCREENING ROOM: Patti LuPone, Elaine Paige, Florence Lacey, Lea Salonga and More Sing "Don't Cry for Me Argentina"
25 Sep 2012
The original production of Evita opened its 1,567-performance run Sept. 25, 1979, starring Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin, who both received Tonys for their work. With the revival of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical still going strong at the Marquis Theatre, we offer another look (and listen) to several versions of the musical's best-known song, "Don't Cry for Me Argentina."
Florence Lacey, most recently on Broadway in the revival of Follies, was the final actress to play the title role in the original Broadway production and also has the distinction of portraying Eva more than any other actress in productions worldwide.
Set in the magical world of La Belle Epoque Paris, where fashion, glamour, and passion prevail, Lerner and Loewe's celebrated musical is a romantic comedy about one young woman's journey to find her true self... and her true love.
