Job Details

Everyday Inferno Theatre Company is seeking Directors for two 2019 summer projects.

(Please note that a first round of submissions was requested earlier this year, but we delayed our interview process due to a change in schedule. If you submitted previously, no need to do so again – we will be reaching out shortly to gauge your current availability and interest.)

PROJECT ONE- Central Park Production

Seeking a director for our annual free show in Central Park (at Summit Rock). Ideal candidates have an interest in women-centered stories, fantasy, magic, and/or heightened theatricality, and are either experienced in or excited about the challenges that come with creating outdoor theatre. We are considering several scripts for this project, but are also interested in reviewing proposals (new or classical works, anything except Shakespeare) from directors who have a project in mind. Please indicate which category you fall under in your email and review the application instructions below.

-Pre-production (in person or remote) to begin in the last week of May

-Auditions to be scheduled on or around the week of 6/2 or 6/9

-Rehearsals begin on or around 7/5, rehearsal schedule to be determined in concert with the director (we typically schedule rehearsals on nights and weekends, but have some flexibility with this production. Please include your preference in your submission.)

-Preview performance/Final dress – Thu 8/8 at 6:30pm, Performances – Fri 8/9-Sun 8/18

-$150 artist stipend (all production costs are fully supported by the company, but please note that our park show is a very low budget production)

To apply:

-Please send your resume and any website/portfolio links you wish us to review to everydayinferno@gmail.com in order to set up an interview appointment.

-Interviews will be conducted 5/3-5/5 either in-person or remotely. Please include your full availability on these dates in your submission.

-If you are applying without a project proposal, please include a brief statement indicating what about our company’s mission or the specific challenges of the park project is most interesting to you.

-If you are applying with a project proposal, please outline that proposal in your submission, including any relevant information about the script (what attracted you to it, why do you feel it is appropriate for our company and the park setting, etc). Please also include any copyright information you are aware of if you are proposing a published script, or information on the translation or adaptation if relevant.

IMPORTANT: You can find six years of history on our past Central Park productions, including production photos, cast sizes (and demographics), and project descriptions on our website. PLEASE access that information when taking into account any proposal or submission you send us.

PROJECT TWO- New work, workshop and ongoing development

Seeking a director to team with a company-member playwright in early-stage development of a new work. This project incorporates site-specific (outdoor) and possibly traveling theatre, heavy movement and stage combat, and a theatrical exploration of the gaming experience. Early-stage development will include at least one private developmental reading, and a 1-2 week workshop period in addition to support for any other development activities the team wants to explore. Please indicate any specific experience with or interest in movement/stage combat or gaming when you apply!

-This project will consist of at least one developmental reading of the current script in June, and a 1-2 week developmental workshop in July or August. Exact dates will be determined in collaboration with the playwright and director once the team is in place, but we will take your existing availability into account while looking at submissions. Please indicate any large periods of conflict during these months when you contact us, so we can take them into account. Additional developmental collaboration between playwright and director during and/or following this period will be supported and encouraged by the company, but without any specific requirements attached.

-$50 artist stipend on workshop completion

To apply:

-Please send your resume and any website/portfolio links you wish us to review to everydayinferno@gmail.com in order to set up an interview appointment.

-Alongside your resume, please include a brief statement outlining either your experience with and interest in developing new works alongside a playwright, or your interest in this specific project centered around both site specific theatre and the gaming experience represented in a theatrical medium.
