DESCRIPTION

McCorkle Casting, LTD is currently seeking non-AEA dancer/singers for various roles in a Workshop of A CROSSING, a new dance musical, produced by Barrington Stage Company.

A CROSSING is a dance musical about a group of Mexicans crossing the border. With a score comprised of traditional Mexican folk music and original songs, A CROSSING features a group of Travelers fighting for survival in search of a better life. The musical is mostly sung and danced through with choreography comprised chiefly of Mexican folk dance and traditionally inspired movement. Consultants on the project are members of the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company.



[KARINANon-AEA. Female, 20s – 30s, Latin or Hispanic. A young, pregnant Mexican woman running from abuse. The Father of her child demanded that she have an abortion. She escaped, deciding to cross the border so she and her baby would be safe. Mezzo with a strong pop/folk/rock sound and belt, up to D5. Excellent singer. Good mover.

[MARTINNon- AEA. Male, 30 – 40s, Latin or Hispanic. A young Honduran man, considered an outsider by the Mexicans trying to cross their border to the U.S. Baritenor or tenor with a strong pop/folk/rock sound, up to A4. Excellent singer. Good mover.

[DANIELLANon-AEA. Female, 30s – 50s, Latin or Hispanic. Mexican woman, older, a household servant who hopes for a better life for her family. She’s raising Giselle after Giselle’s mother was killed. Alto but with a contemporary sound, up to Bb5. Great dancer/singer.

[GISELLENon-AEA. Female, 20s, Latin or Hispanic. Reads 15 years old. Young and Fearless. Raised in a violent world, rescued by her grandparents. Unlike the others, crossing is an adventure, not a frightening hardship. Great singer, good mover.

[COYOTENon-AEA. Male, 20s – 40s, Caucasian. The Travelers may as well be bags of beans, his job is to transport them across the border. If any are damaged or problematic on the way, they are discarded, left behind. Bass with a cool folk/rock tone, up to C4. Great dancer, good singer.

[ARTURONon-AEA. Male, 30s – 50s, Latin or Hispanic. An older member of the group of immigrants. Also doubles as a member of the male ensemble playing other roles of various ages. Great singer, good mover.

[ERNESTONon-AEA. Male, 20s to play 15, Latin or Hispanic. A younger member of the group of immigrants. Also doubles as a member of the male ensemble playing roles of various ages. Great singer, good mover.

[MALE ENSEMBLENon-AEA. Male, any age, Latin or Hispanic. Two additional male ensemble members to play Border Guards and other Travelers. Great dancers and good singers.

 

[FEMALE ENSEMBLENon-AEA. Female, any age, Latin/Hispanic One female ensemble member who plays a variety of roles of various ages. Great dancer and good singer.
