Lead by Improbable Stage Company Artistic Director, Stacy Donovan, this workshop is centered in movement work. That written, non-dancers should not be discouraged; this is not a dance class. All artists benefit from becoming more in tune with their bodies. We use a variety of methods and techniques to create “mini works” of performance art in each workshop.
What artists are saying about Artistic Director, Stacy Donovan:
“I truly enjoyed the workshop with Stacy Donovan and Improbable Stage. New York City can be a daunting place especially for those in the arts and Stacy creates a welcoming, supportive and collaborative environment. The exercises make it easy for everyone to join in at their own speed and in whatever way makes them feel most comfortable. I felt free to be myself and express myself in my own personal, creative way. It was both comforting and freeing to join in the various exercises and provided a space to express myself. I will definitely return and really appreciate Stacy's willingness to offer this donation-based class.” - Christine Lynn Steele
“In an industry full of stereotypes, pressure and expectations, Stacy is remarkably open and supportive in her approach to the development of an actor's skills and talent, which leads to the unique and fresh theatrical experiences created by her company.” - Darren Katz
“Stacy creates a safe space instantly where bodies can create together without filter or self-consciousness, and it's addicting and relaxing and invigorating all at once. Thank you for offering such an event!” - Megan Caniglia
“Improbable Stage offers a space that is safe to both explore and learn in. With their talented company members and supportive energy new comers feel welcome and ready to create. Working in such an intimate and creative way with relative strangers is daunting and intimidating but Improbable Stage makes it seem like an everyday occurrence. Like it should be.” - Ryan Pater
“In the midst of NYC chaos, Stacy Donovan offers free movement classes through the Improbable Workshop that not only contribute to a healthy lifestyle but also help rejuvenate us young artists. Dancers, singers, actors, musicians, and artists of all kinds come and gather at these 2-hour long morning workshops that allow us to connect on physical and mental levels with each other. Stacy is a gem! A true diamond in the rough that is New York City. I look forward to each and every Workshop that she has and feel ready and motivated to take on the NYC lifestyle after each class. I highly recommend these workshops to anyone who needs a respite from the craziness of the city.” - Tatiana Bookbinder
"Stacy encourages all her students while pushing them past their own limitations. Workshops are fun, engaging, and a wonderful learning experience." - Briana Gibson
