Class Features
• Only 8 actors accepted per group: Everyone works in every class and receives individualized coaching
• Actors must have previous training and be ready and willing to work—and to have fun learning to love monologues :)
• Each actor can complete 4 great, new, audition-ready monologues—you only need 1 picked out to start, and I consult on the rest

What I will teach you:

CHOOSING MONOLOGUES
• Know which kinds of monologues are best to show agents, casting directors, EPAs, theaters, training programs, summer stock, apprenticeships
• Know when to do and when not to do "overdone" monologues (check out my site www.monologueaudition.com for the most comprehensive overdone monologue lists online!)
• Find writers who write great roles for you, and learn how your choices can express your strengths, goals, and love of acting
• Start building a killer repertoire of monologues that show the industry what you can do

DIRECTING MONOLOGUES
• Make your monologue fun to do and to watch with strong self-staging choices
• Solve "What do I do with my hands??" forever
• Learn how much movement is right for a particular monologue
• Know when and how to use a chair effectively
• Bring these techniques into your work with directors so that you can take direction easily and collaborate fully

ACTING MONOLOGUES
• Act truthfully with "no one" —it's an easy adjustment you already know how to do
• Create a connected "two way" conversation instead of acting "at" your focus
• Stay focused and committed to your choices under pressure
• Deeply personalize your stakes

AUDITIONING WITH MONOLOGUES
• Make confident, professsional entrances and exits
• Learn how to chat in the room—and when not to
• Introduce and transition in and out of pieces with ease
• Use a system of self-evalulation that empowers you and propels you into your next audition (used and recommended by Anna Chlumsky in her Backstage interview)

KAREN KOHLHAAS is a founding member of the Atlantic Theater Company and a senior teacher at the Atlantic Acting School. She is a master teacher of Practical Aesthetics acting technique with over 30 years in the classroom. She is an Off Broadway director, author and documentary filmmaker, and has taught her unique approach to audition monologues at the Atlantic Acting School: Rose Bruford College of the Performing Arts, UK; Seattle University; University of Southern California: Oklahoma City University: Practical Aesthetics Australia; Theater Educators of Texas Association; Association of Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), Baldwin Wallace University, Austin Shakespeare, Florida International University; University of Central Oklahoma; Ah Um Theater, Vancouver; and privately in New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles since the 1990's.

Her books, The Monologue Audition, How to Choose a Monologue for Any Audition, The Monologue Audition Teacher's Manual, and DVD, The Monologue Audition Video are used by hundreds of colleges, schools, and teachers, and thousands of actors around the US and internationally.
