Primary Stages ESPA
New York, NY 10018
This is not the scene study class you took in college. This 8-week class will give you an inside look at the work on stages today.
At Primary Stages ESPA
Instructor: Thom Sesma (Actor, Superhero at Second Stage, title role in Sweeney Todd at Barrow Street)
Mondays from 11:00am – 2:00pm
July 1, 15, 22, 29, August 5, 12, 19, 26
This class might be for you if you:
---Are committed to working on your craft and deepening your scene work skills.
---Are a self-motivated actor ready to dedicate out-of-class time to rehearse with your scene partner.
In this class you will:
---Learn to make bold choices and ask the right questions to tackle the challenging demands of the form, structure, and language of contemporary and modern playwrights.
---Build on what your talent and intellect bring to your scene work in a room where you feel safe to make mistakes and make strong choices.
---Work on 2-3 scenes over the course of the eight weeks, actively working moments on your feet with Thom to give you a sense of success, which you can then maintain as a standard in your work outside of class.
---Be seen in your final class by a prominent NYC director or casting agent, who will provide invaluable insight and feedback.
By the end of this class you will:
---Have valuable rehearsal skills and be able to identify the core action and spine of a scene, and translate this into your character work and rehearsal process.
---Find the joy of discovery in the sometimes frustrating process of getting specific in your work.
---Be eligible for consideration for Advanced Scene Study 1.
Please note that final class guests are subject to change.
