For three weeks, an al fresco dance floor is built in Damrosch Park for Midsummer Night Swing, a 15 night dance party with nights devoted to swing, salsa, disco,80’s. tango, and more. Each evening begins with a free dance lesson given by some of the city’s top instructors. From 7:30 until 10:00, there are two live music sets and a DJ. Past artists include Femi Kuti, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Chubby Checker, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Kermit Ruffins and his Barbecue Swingers.

Lincoln Center Out of Doors inaugurated in 1971, as one of the longest-running, free summer performance series in the country.  Each August it offers hundreds of free performances of popular music (ranging from jazz and americana, to hip hop and world music), modern dance, site-specific and interactive performances and family presentations on the outdoor plazas of Lincoln Center, with mainstage performances taking place in Damrosch Park.

The Administrative Intern obtains hands-on skills working with the festival producer in the artist database, generating offer letters and contracts, and learning what goes into negotiating with artists.  This intern will have the opportunity to learn how to process incoming contracts, make entries in the budget spreadsheet, and help the producer review security assignments.  This internship provides the opportunity to learn about administration and production. This intern will work with the Producers, and Company Manager to make sure that all contracts have been generated, approved and sent out to artists and all necessary documents have been returned to the Public Programming Offices in time for the performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Track incoming contracts and press materials
  • Work closely with the Public Programming staff to edit advertising and program copy
  • Responsible for the creation of performance program handouts
  • Prepare nightly access charts, maintain guest lists, and create scripts for performances by coordinating with various Lincoln Center departments. 
  • Assist with onsite coordination for Young Music Makers performances on the Plaza
  • Additional responsibilities relating to ancillary festival events


 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

This internship might be right for you if you are:
  • Enrolled undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate ( as of December 2018)
  • Able to work evening during the summer months of the festival
  • Able to bring a unique and creative perspective to the team and the work involved
  • Passionate about the performing arts
  • Energetic, able to show initiative, and creativity
  • A strong communicator with strong organizational skills and a keen attention to details
  • An excellent writer and capable of meeting hard deadlines
  • Some with strong interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable interacting with a broad audience, internal staff, members of the public, and able to represent Lincoln Center at public events
  • Flexible and with a collaborative attitude
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize competing assignments
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and flexible, with a good sense of humor
  • A passion for inclusion and advocacy in the arts
  • Multilingual, is a plus.


Approximate dates of this internship are January 2019 – August 2019.  All internships are paid at $15 per hour.  During the months of January thru May the intern will work 20 hours a week from mid-May to August in there inter will work 40 hours a week with possible overtime.
