New York City, NY
We are holding auditions for the lead role of Esmeralda in a new play called Dancing Girl, premiering this June in NYC!
The ideal performer for this role should be fluent in American Sign Language.
The ideal performer should also be an experienced and confident dancer/mover.
A female-identifying person of color is strongly preffered.
Dancing Girl is a gritty re-imagining of Victor Hugo's classic Hunchback of Notre Dame. Our version centers on Esmeralda and her community of Outcasts, and confronts themes of immigration, police violence, and feminism by exploring the bond between the oppressed and their oppressors. The story will be told using a blend of spoken language, choreography, and sign language. Rehearsals will start in late May and go throughout the month of June. Our 2 to 3 performances will be at the end of June at the Connelly Theater in Manhattan's Lower East Side. There is a modest stipend included for this project. Please send an e-mail to the e-mail address on this posting to schedule an audition! We look forward to meeting you!
