DESCRIPTION

Northern Stage in White River Junction, VT seeks an experienced Assistant Technical Director for its 2018-2019 season. Northern Stage is a LORT D 240 seat regional theater in VT, producing 6 mainstage shows, 4 educational productions, and 4-6 other events year-round, with the mainstage season falling between the months of August and May. The ATD will work closely with the TD and other shop staff in coordinating and planning all activities necessary for changeovers and the maintenance of shop equipment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work with the TD to build, load in, and strike each shop
Lead all strike calls
Work with the TD to ensure that all shows are completed on time and on budget
Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory
Work with the shop staff to maintain shop equipment
Train shop staff in the use of shop equipment
Provide support for events outside the mainstage and education seasons
Act as part of a run crew as needed
Keep scene shop and work areas clean and safe
Finish work (moulding and some painting)
Take on TD role for up to 2 shows
Draft at least 25% of all shows

 Qualifications:
Experience as an ATD required; 2-3 years prefered
BA or BFA in tech theater a plus
Proficiency in CAD (prefered) or Vectorworks
Mastery of scenic construction
Good time management
Ability to assist with budget/project estimation
Proficiency in hand and power tools required
Rigging experience required
Welding and steel fabrication required
Capacity to solve problems
Good communication skills – Must be a team player
Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a box truck required
Comfortable working at heights in excess of 20 feet in a lift and on an expansion grid
Ability to safely lift 75 lbs.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivating individual who will display leadership qualities and can prioritize and execute required duties. This position helps other production departments as needed and will work alongside interns to promote a safe and healthy work/learning environment. Some nights and weekends required. Standard work days are Monday – Friday, 8:00am-4:45pm. Salary for this position is $400 paid biweekly, plus pet-friendly housing valued at $200/week within walking distance of the theater (all utilities/internet included). Contract Dates: 5/21/18-4/21/19, with a possible contract extension through 5/20/19.
