Development Director, SPARC

Job Details

About the Company:

SPARC: Subito Politico Artists’ Retreat Collective is a 2 week, all-inclusive grant for early-career, historically marginalized and underrepresented artists who may not otherwise have access to such resources to create new work. By providing the resources of the retreat, we encourage work made by and about diverse groups and individuals, telling authentic stories to bring our larger communities closer in connection, empathy, and understanding.

SPARC is fiscally sponsored by the New York Theatre Barn, a 501(c)(3) organization, and is able to accept charitable donations while SPARC goes through the process of becoming a non-profit organization itself.

SPARC is a new organization, in its first year of operation. This is an opportunity to join a growing team/organization in the early stages. We are seeking a valuable team member who will help shape the future of the organization’s development potential and efforts.

About the Position:

The Development Director will act as the main point of contact for SPARC’s fundraising efforts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, cultivating connections with potential donors via email campaigns, social media campaigns, and in-person meetings; maintaining databases for campaign outreach and contact; working with SPARC’s Marketing Director to effectively reach our audiences; coordinating with SPARC’s Fiscal Sponsor; ensuring relationships and donor gift packages are executed to their highest potential; work with and update SPARC’s Founding Executive Director on milestones and important events; and represent SPARC’s mission to the public. SPARC’s first year fundraising goal is approximately $85-100 thousand.

This position offers an hourly rate/stipend, with the potential to grow with the company. We will work with the right candidate to put together a compensation package that works for them. Please include compensation expectations in your cover letter.

About You:

The Development Director will have, above all else, a strong passion to create change and access in and to the arts.

A demonstrable experience with non-profit arts development is necessary. The number of years or organizations that you have is not as important as being able to point to what you have achieved in this respect. We are a small team, so we will be looking for your individual accomplishments and perspective, rather than that of the organization(s) you have worked with.

Strong written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to inspire potential donors.

Proficiency with the Google Suite, and the ability to create and maintain databases and spreadsheets using the platform.

Creativity, kindness, and empathy. These are the core value characteristics of SPARC.

SPARC is searching for someone with a diverse perspective and background to complement our team’s strengths and encourages persons who identify as being of historically marginalized and/or underrepresented backgrounds in arts management to apply. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, familial status, sexual orientation, national origin, ability, age or veteran status.

To Apply:

Please apply by email to with “Development Director | [Your Name]” in the subject line. Please include:

  • Cover letter, including compensation expectations and demonstrable experience with non-profit arts development

  • Resume

  • Writing sample or link to a fundraising campaign you created

All attachments should be in PDF format.

We look forward to reviewing your application; thank you for your interest.
